Manchester City midfielder Nico O’Reilly is close to signing a new contract with the club, replacing his current deal that runs until 2026.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City are in talks over a new contract with 20-year-old midfielder O’Reilly and are hoping to sign a higher-paid deal as soon as possible.

O’Reilly, who stands at 6ft 4in (193cm), has only just broken into Pep Guardiola’s first-team in his first season and has impressed beyond expectations, making 14 appearances in all competitions and scoring five goals – two in the Premier League and three goals and two assists in the FA Cup.

He noted that the player, who has recently been link with Chelsea, is also attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur, but he is closer to staying with City.

It is worth mentioning that the player is currently excelling and contributed to his team’s victory over Everton in the Premier League “2-0” by scoring the first goal yesterday.

Manchester City continue to be link with a number of full-back solutions during the upcoming summer transfer window, and particularly on the left side of defence which may raise questions over Nico O’Reilly’s longer-term future.
